Sunflower spread
Yuli wears sunflower print top as reference to her closeness to Carmen, a Star who is also a Sun for Planet George to Orbit. Noticed what may be sunflowers in some locations shots of front of Cruz home.
This crochet sunflower blanket pattern might be used in different ways. A couple of squares could be used as a pillow, if someone doesn't make the 24 squares for throw measuring about 50 by 64 inches. A strip of motifs--perhaps using thinner or cotton yarn or thread--could be a table decoration.
Ravelry lists many patterns for other sunflower afghans, some free downloads, others may be purchased by doing image search. resembles tiles in kitchen. Instead of black, white and gray color scheme of life without Carmen and other lively Jurado family members, pattern uses yarn in colors with food names such as cream, honey spice and ginger. However, background color of original thick yarn has been discontinued.
Possible substitutes to get the same oversize look might be found on www.yarnsub.com (perhaps Lion Brand Hue + Me or Lion Brand Wool-ease, if you want the extra warmth of washable wool yarn) or simply pick a thinner yarn or different color scheme. I think it might look appealing in cheerful tones used in Tenoch's restaurant--blue, green, yellow, pink or red.

I haven't seen movie Encanto yet, but it might inspire home make-over from something as cold and uncomfortable looking (tho expensive) as Cruz home when ruled by ice queen Leticia, to much more alive and family-welcoming when Carmen is finally true "reina de esta casa", as George calls her in 2nd episode.
